St. Charles -- located in the village of the same name, Madison Twp.  Methodist Episcopal.  Erie Conference.  The village is named for an Iron Furnace there.  In 1900, Mr. H. W. Bish, an employee of the Clarion FireBrick Co., began a Sunday School in the plant carpenter shop.  Classes were held there until 1902 when the Clarion Fire Brick Co. donated land for a church, and Mrs. W. S. McClain, secy./treas. of the company, paid for the church building.  The church has been on the Putneyville Charge with the Putneyville and Widnoon churches.
